Are you looking for a church community that believes...

  • Jesus's life and teachings embodied a radically inclusive love for everyone?
  • The Bible should be taken seriously but not literally?
  • No one has all the answers about God, and questions are welcome?
  • No allegiance to any specific creed is required?
  • Faith is a matter of both heart and mind?
  • Faith is not about believing certain doctrines but about building relationships with God, one another and the stranger we have yet to meet?

Then get connected with us and learn more about St. John's United Church of Christ!

A few words about us

St. John's United Church of Christ has been serving the Egg Harbor City community for over 150 years.

We see everyone as a child of God, fully and equally created in God's image.  In seeking to do justice and care for one another, we recognize, affirm, and support people of diverse ages, races, nationalities, sexual orientation, incomes, domestic relationships, and mental and physical abilities. Jesus accepted everyone and we are called to do the same!

Worship Service

We gather every Sunday morning to feel the spirit of God and the nearness of one other move through us. Worship begins at 10:00 am. While our worship time tends to follow the traditional order of hymns, prayers, scripture and sermon, there is plenty of room for laughter and joy! In our worship celebration we strive to:
Picture
Encourage uplifting worship services that "honor the old while embracing the new" with a  combination of traditional and contemporary prayers, readings, and music.
Picture
Offer inspiring preaching that each week reminds us of God's unwavering love for us while also calling us to live our lives in ways that demonstrate our love for others.  The thought-provoking sermons shed the wisdom of Scripture on the challenges of living today.

Encourage the participation of members, recognizing that the Pastor is not the only minister of the church, we all are!

Make room for the presence of the Holy Spirit!

In Our Worshiping:

In our worship we use language and imagery that reflect the wonderful diversity of the image of God in humanity and all creation and transcends the exclusive language of the church's past. Our hymnal is the United Church of Christ’s New Century Hymnal which not only uses inclusive language but contains hymns from many other cultures.  Everything you need to participate fully in our service is included in our printed bulletin so newcomers need not feel uncomfortable or awkward as they worship with us!

Our Sanctuary

Our sanctuary is air-conditioned and handicap-accessible. We are delighted to announce that in the fall of 2019 our new handicap-accessible restrooms will be completed! We also offer large-print bulletins and an assistive listening system for those who may be experiencing physical limitations.

Communion

On the first Sunday of each month we celebrate Communion during worship. Communion at St. John’s is open to all who wish to know the presence of Christ and to share in the community of God's people.  The invitation and the call to this common meal celebrate not only the memory of a meal that is past, but an actual meal with the risen Christ that is a foretaste of the heavenly banquet at which Christ will preside at the end of history.  Children may receive communion at their parents' discretion.  For more information on the practice of Holy Communion within the United Church of Christ please visit the UCC website at https://www.ucc.org/worship_communion
